sleepless in Sendai

Urban Castle Kawauchi,
That will be my home for the next to month! I arrived late, but still they expected me as Prof. P was in contact with them. I have to thank him a lot, he is really helpful! Domo arigato gozaimasu P. San!
So i got a room and an introduction. After that I stored my stuff and when to a grocery store nearby. I´ll survice food wise! Cup Noodle! Curry. That was my supper. I also got to know a three french boys and one from the US. Nice people, all no idea about japanese language ;-) just as me.
So we will stick together! But later on I was alone in my cell, ah sorry, room. It´s japanese size, so please don´t get me wrong, i´m not complaining, but it is small!!!

It was a pretty moist evening so i thought about opening the window, but there is a large transfomator outside and it make a sound that makes you what to have a tinitus to overtone this sound.
Well the air condition was no option while sleeping as well (also noisy, but ok during the day).
So, I actually asked to switch the room, and they were very kind! I will switch just to the other side of the floor and all will be fine.
I can tell you, with the Jetlag, a bed that is actually a planket with a tiny matrace, the heat and the noise, I could almost understand a certain thing that is more often happening than anywhere else in the world, I guess you know what I mean.
Not that I thought about it as solution for my situation, but I finally get an idea what might cause the "issue". (Please do not take me too serious).

Bathrooms, showers, common use rooms and so on are all fine for me. So basically, if the next night turns out to be more relaxing than the last, everything is fine! I just have to adapt. It´s not a japanese problem, but my european perception of the situation ;-).

Prof. P also told me that he will pick me up at 11-11.30 the next moring, so I set an alarm for 8 (but somehow missed it after in finally managed to sleep at 4 in the morning).
So when I woke at 10.00 (exact time!) I was a little shocked but still managed to shower, eat and drink something and talk to H. San to switch the room. (H. San is also a very helpful guy, I hope I did not bother him too much).
So I waited for Prof. P. outside and found the first cats!
Hopefully I may manage to get near them in the next weeks. They (I saw two) seam to be funny as they wher playing with some platic stuff.
But It it also seamed that they were allways near cover to flee if one of this huge japanese ravens comes near (you think german ravens are big? forgett it!).

But now comes the part that made me actually think I will manage to achive something here in Sendai.
Prof. P came and, no, did not pick me up, but left two of his students with me to show me the way!  So we went to the University and into our (yes i do have an office desk here!). I met so many people here and they are all very kind and helpful. "We" are a very international group here in this master course, Tonga, China, Vietnam, Japan and Mosambique! So we went for lunch together and I´ll copy their ways of getting food etc. for the next days until I find out how it really works. And as you see, I have internet here in the office!
I´ll keep you updated!

  2. :-) I didn't think of a cell in the first place, but more of a hospital room ('cause of the bed)... Sure this isn't a mental home you are living in? See, the cell furniture, most people not understanding you, big ravens you are seeing... ;)
Good luck there, we already miss you and I'll be following your blog daily. Take pictures of your food, that's gonna be interesting!
    Take care ;) Franzi
